What an amazing day we had this past Saturday! Many of our “Friends of KKV Club” joined us for the official ground-breaking ceremony for the Mary C. Hensold Learning Resource Center. The sun was shining and our hearts were overflowing with gratitude to God to see this day come to pass. Pastor Nelson opened the ceremony with prayer, and then Molly shared how the project came about. In 2008, Molly’s mom, Mary Hensold, passed away. Her father, Bill Hensold, decided that all monies donated as a memorial would be given to help build this school. The school will have ten rooms, including a library, an office, and classrooms that will hold twelve students each. Molly was the first to officially “break ground,’ with many others following. It was wonderful to see many of our KKV kids participate in the ground breaking as well. Our time together concluded with fellowship over tea and cake.
On Wednesday, a representative from Bata shoes came to take measurements of the kids’ feet. That was quite a feat (pun intended) considering he recorded forty names and sizes :0) The kids are very excited about receiving new shoes as an early Christmas present. It will be a major undertaking to get all forty kids to the store to pick them up. Sounds like an all day outing to me.
We were also blessed to have Miss Mckenna come and speak to us at our chapel service on Thursday. She ministers to our kids every Sunday at Nairobi Lighthouse Church. We appreciate that she took time out of her busy schedule to come and bless us.
